Lupine Day @ Merryspring 6/23/2007

 

Everybody asks me the same question, what is there to do in Maine?  The truth is there is a LOT to do, it's just spread out over here and there.  I am totally reluctant to leave my locality, with the price of gas and kids to drag around, it takes a LOT of effort to get out and enjoy.  People come from far and wide to visit Maine, we are Vacationland after all!  Pretend you took a plane to get here! When the weather cooperates it's nice to get out and experience something different.  The proposal: spend the day looking at beautiful flowers. 

Saturday, June 23 ~ Lupine Day: Following the unveiling of 2007's crop of lupine seeds, a talk, demonstration, and slide presentation about lupine varieties and their culture to help participants establish lupine in their own home landscape. There will be lupine seedlings available for purchase, along with wildflower guide books, ash baskets, and other garden-related merchandise. Merryspring volunteers will also provide lupine activities for children

The Maine Wildlife Park - Gray, Maine

The Maine Wildlife Park is located on Route 26 in Gray, Maine and is open now until Veteran's Day.  I recommend it as a local option but I find you spend a lot of time walking around and there aren't that many animals to see.  The highlights for girl2004 were the two bears and the Moose.  Her favorite book for a while this winter was The Elusive Moose so she was thrilled to see one.

The Fish Viewing room at the Brunswick, Topsham hydro station will be open in June. It's located on the Brunswick side.  Stop by and take a peak Wednesday through  Sunday 1-5.   (The fish viewing seems to be shut down, I've been several times when it should have been open and it was close - VERY disappointing.)

You could make a day at the Ft. Andross Flea Market before or after! maybe even stop by and have a Simply Divine Brownie and hang out in the park, or head back across the bridge and go to the Sea Dog Brewing Company.

FYI: my family and I tried to go Fish Viewing today, but the gate was closed, an employee told us it may not be open do to high water levels...
